Performing Arts

Composers moved away from classical principles of music, and explored new ways of organizing and approaching harmonic, melodic, sonic, and rhythmic aspects of music. Dancers rejected the strictures of society,  turned their backs on classical ballet, and sought freedom of movement.  Playwrights confronted audiences with challenging ideas and explored the inner dimensions of characters.
