All Staff Day 1 Asynchronous Training

This is a required training for new staff members which should be viewed before the 2-day all staff training.

It is divided into 5 sections (with recordings) and covers the 5 research-based components (building blocks) of literacy:

Three Professional learning articles:

1. Hiebert-Fisher-First Grade 2006 – we did not read this, but I highly recommend leaders read this. It is about the importance of teaching students to read well by the end of first grade
2. Summer Training …Knowledge at the Center – this is the article we read, so you might want to use this for PD with people who did NOT attend the training
3. The Sixth Pillar of Reading – I liked the name of this article, which emphasizes knowledge at the center of reading. It is written by the same author as article #2, but I do not think it is nearly as good. Having said this, it would be worth skimming it b/c it does have new and useful information not found in article #2
